#RUBYMINE CODE WITH ME CODE#NOTE: The early access version of Code With Me is free to use. ANY USE OF THIS EAP FEATURE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. BY TAKING PART IN THE EAP, YOU EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS VERSION OF THE FEATURE MAY NOT BE RELIABLE, MAY NOT WORK AS INTENDED, AND MAY CONTAIN ERRORS. THIS IS AN EARLY ACCESS VERSION OF THE FEATURE. #RUBYMINE CODE WITH ME FULL#All this can be done while still enjoying the full benefits of autocompletion, smart navigation, refactoring, the suite of debugging tools, and the built-in terminal available in JetBrains IDEs. This allows developers to quickly access their code simultaneously, so they can help each other investigate issues, review teammates’ code, and work on projects together in real time. It enables to share an open project in an IDE with their distributed team. But if you spent them on learning java IDEs, it makes perfect sense to give RubyMine a shot.Recently JetBrains announced the start of the Early Access Program for Code With Me, a tool for remote collaborative development and pair programming that you have long been waiting for.Ĭode With Me is a new feature available in IntelliJ IDEA and their other IntelliJ-based IDEs long awaited by developers. If you already invested years in learning VIM stick with it. Bottom line is the only important thing is to be efficient. That’s why I’m not going to tell you that you need to stop using VIM or Emacs. ![]() People have very strong feelings about the tools they use. What RubyMine gives to you is all these features working together out of the box, no configuration is required. Probably, you can do everything (except real autocompletion and refactoring) in your editor of choice. It took me only a day to start working with RubyMine efficiently. #RUBYMINE CODE WITH ME HOW TO#I already know how to work with IntelliJ IDEA. And the most important reason for me – no need to develop new skills.Though I don’t remember when I used it last time, using debugger in RubyMine is much more intuitive.A normal test runner (which shows you what is green and what is red and provides all sorts of navigation links). Not only for ruby, but also for JS, CSS etc. All kinds of renaming, introducing and extracting refactorings.Local history, very powerful navigation and code analysis capabilities. When you say that the UI is overloaded just spend 10 minutes to customize it.When you say it needs a lot of memory. If you need to spend $100 on upgrading your machine, don’t hesitate and do it. After all, we are professionals we spend at least 8 hours a day developing software. Which you may say is a lot, but my machine has 12. When I’m working on a very large rails project (about 250K lines of code) it uses 4GB. But why the hell is it a problem? Buy more memory. RubyMines needs more memory that GEdit or VIM. It’s hard to argue with the first objection. It didn’t take me more than a minute to get rid of all unnecessary elements of UI. It’s not as elegant as VIM’s.Īs you can see, I don’t have anything except my editor area – no buttons. RubyMine’s UI is overcomplicated it has so many buttons and icons.Which means that it is slow and consumes infinitive amount of memory. RubyMine is built on top of a java platform. There are some objections against using RubyMine I hear a lot: Having all these considerations in mind, I decided to try RubyMine, which is developed by the same team who made IDEA. I also discovered than a huge percentage of people use other editors (such as TextMate, GEdit, EMacs), so you can always start pairing with a person who uses the editor I am not familiar with. The whole process of writing code is important, not the ability to jump to the third word on a line. It’s worth to mention that by editing I also mean navigating, exploring code, reading documentation and even running tests. I watched many people (in real life and online) using VIM and they aren’t faster than me using IDEA. But even if the speed of editing was as important as some VIM users say, I wouldn’t gain a lot. Let your fingers do the job while you’re thinking about your next steps. The only important thing is not to think about editing. ![]() Being different when you’ve just joined a community isn’t the best idea.Īs for the first reason I don’t need to edit my code very fast.
